Mother Millian

Overview

Mother Millian was a halfling witch doctor. She took the honorific “Mother” or “Clan Mother” from serving as the wise woman and healer for the Crockfoot Clan, a small familial group within the greater of Ghostwise Halfling Tribe.

Following the death of her Mother, and the previous Crockfoot Clan Mother, Mother Malta, Millian took over as clan mother. Her mother's dying words after getting partially smashed by a giant were to "take care of them, they are your children now", making it clear that it was Millian's responsibility to look after her furtive halfling kinsmen.

After many years of successfully protecting her clan some philosophical discussions between herself and various clan members, most notably her young son Elliot the Bongoist about the purpose of living such a fearful and joyless life, She softened to their wishes to 'live a little' and 'enjoy life' and allowed some music and festivities within the Clan's hideout. Soon after, the noise of a baby naming celebration brought giants and giant kin down upon their cave. The entire clan was wiped out leaving Millian as an unwilling survivor and last of the Crockfoot Clan.

Appearance

A small, dark-skinned, wizened old Halfling matron, dressed in a baggy shift and adorned with braided and unkempt salt and pepper hair with many bone and uncut rocks. Her skin is extremely wrinkled beyond her 55 years of life with bright hazel eyes peaking out of deep eyewells. On her wrist she wears a dirty braid bracelet made from the multi-colored hair of her fallen Crockfoot brethren, which is the focal point for her connection with her ancestors.

Relatives

Three Husbands:

• Jiv the Hunter - Millian's first husband and one true love. They grew up together as youngsters amongst the Crockfoot Clan and were married at a young age. They had four children together before Jiv met his end during a hunting trip at the hand of a Hill Giant.

Spirituality, Casting and Combat

Like her clan, Millian is possessed with a strong survival instinct that centers around fearless timidity. While never overcome by fear, Millian understands that her best chance of survival comes from hiding behind her stronger comrades, up a tree, or inside a hole. In combat or tense situations she will always tend to apparent cowardice while keeping her wits and skills about her. She is surprisingly spry for an old lady and has practiced in her youth with various simple weapons, including ranged weapons

Casting

Before the death of her clansmen and Millian performing the burial rites for them she had no supernatural powers. Her healing and special skills came through herbalism and talents around the cook fire. Since coming down from the Gray Hills after burying her tribe Millian began to have dreams and hear the voices of the deceased more and more vividly. They bragged to her that they could do things, at first she didn't believe the ancestors but as her journey went on she began to believe their half-dreamed words and call on them to perform evermore miraculous works.
